Cognition and Learning

Learning difficulties cover a wide range of needs, including moderate learning difficulties (MLD). Specific learning difficulties (SpLD), affecting one or more specific aspects of learning. This encompasses a range of conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

Our Staff CPD schedule is robust and carefully planned. All our staff receive regular training to keep us up to date with the latest pedagogical research. This includes understanding of metacognition and how learning may look different for different people; and specific guidance on effective methods for teaching neurodivergent young people. Our TA's participate in the weekly training alongside the teachers to support a consistent approach in classrooms. Staff also have the opportunity to complete their own research on an area that is particularly relevant to their job role and career stage.
