Janice Kingman B.Ed. PGCE (Special Education) PG Dip. (Counselling in Schools)
Janice is a qualified teacher and counsellor for children and young people with many years experience. She began her career teaching music at secondary school, before moving into the primary sector where she became the head teacher of 4 successful primary schools. During her career she also gained a postgraduate qualification in special educational needs with a particular focus on children and young people with hearing impairment.
Janice has always maintained a holistic approach to education, realizing early on the relationship of good mental health to learning. This led her to return to university and qualify as a counsellor with particular focus on children and young people. Janice qualified as an integrative counsellor, which means that she uses many different approaches. These include a person-centred approach, art therapy, play therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and many more. By using a range of approaches she is able to tailor the work to each individual. Janice has hundreds of hours experience, but never stops learning about ways to support the children and young people with whom she works.
Janice offers 45minute sessions, which can be for a few weeks or over much longer periods of time. The sessions are confidential to the young person, with the exception of any safeguarding issues. Parents and teachers are invited to contribute at the beginning of the work, thus providing a wider picture. I look forward to working with many young people at All Saints in the coming years.
